Tammy Wynettes famous song, Stand By your Man, cowritten by Wynette and Billy Sherrill in 1968 and a notorious site of derision for feminists in the late 60's and 70's, is the starting point for Finney's sound work Stand by, Tammy (2013).
Finney has taken the original songs and, maintaining its exact running time, stretched and manipulated Wynette's voice until there only remains a low wavering bass sound and an occasional distorted, wordless utterance. By stretching and cutting the voice until the words are no longer apparent, the artist is attempting to reveal material qualities if Wynnette's voice beyond the weight of the words that she is singing.
