Interested in how the voice is altered in space my time during this residency explored the acoustic resonances of the site of Anos Syros. As a medieval monastery I was particularly interested in the effect of natural reverb and/or echo occurring throughout the site. Working with two reel to reel tape players I used my time during the residency to record across several external and internal sites resulting in a film work, performance, and installation.
About the residency:
Syros Sound Meetings initiative invites musicians, sound artists & improvisers of all levels & backgrounds with a documented interest in experimentation & site-specific composition, improvisation or performance, for a joint residency in the island of Syros, Greece
Staying at the converted guesthouse of a 17th-century Jesuit Monastery on the historic Ano Syros hillside, resident participants will have time to work individually and together on site-specific or site-inspired projects. Upon completing the residency, participants will be expected to present in public one or more individual and collaborative publications and/or releases, developed during the 11-day period itself.
